The Family Project:
A Creative Handbook for Anyone Who Wants to Discover Their Family Story – but Doesn’t Know Where to Start (Journal)
I was recently sent this quite lovely workbook by publisher Faber and Faber. It is the creation of husband and wife Harriet Green and John-Paul Flintoff.
I’ve often thought about recording details of our family life for the children to look back at when they are older but I could never decide on what format it could take, be it lists, anecdotes or annotated photos. This book has an excellent format combining all these elements with places to record family trees, pets, recipes, maps, regrets and aspirations! No two pages follow the same structure appealing to writers, doodlers, and photographers alike.
The Family Project helps children to see the things which make their family unique, it encourages them to ask questions and find out more about their family members.
It is difficult to ascertain what age this book is aimed at, it would definitely require a certain level of maturity to approach some of the projects (funerals and regrets) whilst other activities would be suitable for the very young (favourite foods and books).
On the whole I really enjoyed looking through this book and I will definitely use it with my children as they get older.
The book will be in shops from March 5th.
